How to Prepare for Your Newborn Photoshoot Tiverton

Preparing for your newborn photoshoot can feel a little overwhelming, especially when you have just welcomed a brand new baby into the world. The good news is that it does not need to be complicated at all.

As a newborn photographer, my sessions are designed to be calm, relaxed, and completely led by your baby. My aim is to make the whole experience feel easy so you can simply enjoy this special time with your little one.

Here is a little guide on how to prepare for your newborn photography session.

When to Book Your Newborn Photoshoot

The best time to book your newborn photoshoot is during pregnancy. Most families secure their session while they are expecting so that I can reserve space around their due date.

Newborn photography sessions are usually photographed within the first few weeks after baby arrives, when they are still very sleepy and naturally curled up.

If you are looking for a newborn photographer in Tiverton or the surrounding Devon area, it is always best to book early to guarantee availability.

Before Your Session

Once your newborn session is booked, I will send you a full preparation guide that explains everything you need to know before your shoot. This includes what to bring, what to wear, and what to expect during the session.

If you are able to, it can sometimes help to keep baby awake for a short time before leaving for the studio. A sleepy baby is often easier to settle for those beautiful natural newborn portraits. But please do not worry if this does not happen. Babies always have their own plans and we simply work around them.

Feeding Your Baby

A full tummy helps baby feel calm and settled. I usually recommend feeding your baby when you arrive at the studio so they can fall into a lovely deep sleep ready for the session.

If baby needs feeding again during the shoot that is completely normal. Newborn sessions are never rushed and we always pause for cuddles, feeding, and settling whenever it is needed.

What to Bring to Your Newborn Session

You do not need to bring very much with you. I provide the wraps, blankets, and carefully chosen props used during the session.

The main things I suggest bringing are milk if baby is bottle fed, a dummy if you use one, and nappies and wipes.

What Should Baby Wear

Simple is always best for newborn photography. Dressing baby in a loose baby grow works perfectly because it can be removed gently without disturbing their sleep too much.

A Calm and Relaxed Experience

My studio is kept warm so that babies stay comfortable and sleepy throughout the session. Every pose is done slowly and safely, with your baby's comfort and wellbeing always the priority.

Newborn sessions can take up to two hours because everything happens at your baby's pace. There is plenty of time for feeding, cuddles, and settling so the session always feels calm and relaxed.

Capturing These Precious Early Days

Those first days with your newborn pass by so quickly. Tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, and those beautiful curled up poses change in what feels like the blink of an eye.

Newborn photography is about preserving those little details so you can look back on them forever.
